Basicila S. Nicholas Basilica di San Nicola
Basicila S. Nicholas Basilica di San Nicola
The Basilila St. Nicholas is located in the town of Tolentino, in the Marche Region of Italy. This is the resting place for the remains of Saint Nicholas (1305). A Saint that many cities and town in Italy proclaim as their patron Saint such as Rome, Naples and Venice.
The Basilica di San Nicola a Tolentino is a former cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tolentino.
The cloisters were built in the 13th Century and between 1490 and 1510 they were rebuilt. While the cloisters do not have the ornate thin columns, the main point of attracting are the frescoes along the inner walls. The 14th Century Giottesque frescoes are attributed to Pietro da Rimini, depicting scenes from the life of the St. Nicholas of Tolentino and biblical stories. It is though the frescoes were completed within a few decades of the saint's death in 1305.
